I call Ras El Hanout the Moroccan version of Indian Garam Masala–a ubiquitous spice blend that can be used on meats and vegetables to grill, braise, stew, or air fry.

Why You’ll Love This Spice Blend
There are probably as many Ras El Hanout recipes as there are people who make them. Much like Indian Garam Masala , families have their own ways of making Ras Al Hanout.
Here’s why you’ll love my blend the most:
- Fast. Ready in under 30 minutes .
- Easy. A simple no cook recipe . Just combine this list of amazingly flavorful and unique spices and store them for use in a variety of recipes.
- Flavorful. Gives a Moroccan flair to a variety of dishes.
- Versatile. Can be used in any side dish or main course , from protein to vegetables.
What Is Ras El Hanout
It is a blend of the best spices in the house–sort of like ordering a Top Shelf Margarita. It means “head of the shop” or the best spices available.
What Do You Use It For?
Ras el Hanout is a spice blend, that combines aromatic spices and sweet spices into one melange that keeps you from reaching for over a dozen different spices when you cook.
You can use it in marinades, as a rub, and as a seasoning in many dishes like stews and tajines. I also use it to air fry vegetables.
What Does It Taste Like?
This Ras El Hanout recipe has a little bit of flavor for everyone. It is sweet, bitter, tangy, and spicy–but not heat spicy. It just has a powerful spiced flavor that enhances the natural essence of anything it is served with.
What Is Ras El Hanout Made Of?
Yes, I know this is a LONG list of spices, but the payoff for mixing them up in bulk far outweighs opening up all of those spice jars time after time for recipes that use this amazingly flavorful spice blend.
- Ground Cumin
- Ground Coriander
- Ground Ginger
- Cayenne Pepper
- Turmeric
- Smoked Paprika
- Kosher Salt - If you’re watching your sodium intake and prefer to monitor exact amounts at each meal, you can leave it out and salt the dish as needed in addition to this spice blend.
- Ground Black Pepper
- Ground Cinnamon
- Ground Allspice
- Ground Cloves
- Ground Nutmeg
- Ground Cardamom
- Saffron Strands - These can be rather expensive, so feel free to omit them if you don’t keep them in your spice cabinet.
How To Make Ras El Hanout
This recipe has one step. It’s so simple I feel like it’s silly to even take the time to write it down, but here you go:
- Mix together all ground spices.
Yep, that’s it. Measure out all of the spices in a bowl, mix them together thoroughly, and store your Ras Al Hanout in an empty spice jar.
How Long Does It Last?
Let me tell you that if I’m going to open up that many spice jars, to create a unique spice blend, it’s going to be worth my time.
For the freshest Ras El Hanout blend, store it in an airtight spice container and use it within 4-6 weeks.

Confused about what to eat on Keto diets? Wondering what is allowed and what you can’t have on keto? Let me simplify this for a beginner because it’s easy for people to complicate Keto diets. But it can be easy to get started.

I am not a medical, or health care professional so you definitely want to consult what my sons call “a real doctor, not a Ph.D. like my Mom”.
The main thing to remember is to limit carbs to between 20-50 gms, eat moderate protein, eat lots of fat. When in doubt on what to eat on Keto, you can’t go wrong with fats or high-fat proteins
What To Eat On A Ketogenic Diet
- Meat
- Seafood
- Eggs
- Most vegetables except potatoes, beets, carrots & starchy squashes
- Nuts & Nut butters in moderation
- Oils, coconut oil, butter, ghee
- Olives
- Avocados
- Cheese
- High protein lactose-free milk
- Heavy whipping cream
- A little sour cream,
- A little Greek yogurt
- The occasional handful of berries
- Keep nuts to 1/4 c, berries to half a cup and don’t do those plus yogurt on the same day.
WHAT NOT TO EAT ON A KETOGENIC DIET:
- Sugar
- Flour
- Other Fruits
- Juice
- Pasta
- Rice
- Beans
- Grains
- Potatoes
- Anything from the bakery.
If you did JUST that, you’d be ahead.
So don’t use the fact that people complicate keto as a reason to not get started.
I hope this was helpful and that people won’t be arguing with me about details. This is baby steps about what to eat on Keto. Not super precise but it’s a place to start.
People will argue about this cheese or that meat but if you’re eating a regular diet now, this is a good starting point.
Also for the first week, do not skimp on the salt, and don’t worry as much about calories. Once your body adjusts to the lack of carbs, your hunger will decrease automatically.
Over time, you will want to track carbs and add to your list of what to eat on Keto, but this is a good starting point.
