So someone at our house (cough: my husband: cough cough) left out an entire bag of frozen shrimp. By the time I found them, they had defrosted and needed to be cooked or eaten. So we cooked up an entire bag of shrimp from Costco and froze them in smaller bags. This week, I’ve been trying to come up with ways to use them.

This was simple, spicy and the sauce was so good I wanted to lick it off the plate. Hey, I waited until I was alone at the table before it did it! Surely that gets me points for good behavior.

Piquant Shrimp

Ingredients

  • ▢ 16 ounces Raw Shrimp , peeled and deveined (tails left on)

For the Sauce

  • ▢ 4 tablespoons Butter
  • ▢ 4 cloves Garlic , crushed
  • ▢ 4 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon tabasco
  • ▢ 2 teaspoons Cajun Seasoning

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt all the ingredients for the sauce together. Bring it to a boil and let it boil for a minute or two until all the ingredients are mixed together and the sauce has thickened.
  • Put the shrimp into an oven-proof container and pour the sauce over the shrimp.
  • If the shrimp are pre-cooked, you can either eat this point or subject to a quick broil for 4 minutes. I broiled it because I like my shrimp hot.
  • If the shrimp were raw, broil until done, I’m guessing this will be 8-10 mins at the most no more.
  • This makes a lot of sauce. All the better for you to eat it with a spoon, my dear.

So when I posted the Homemade Gyro Meat recipe , I promised to show you a couple of ideas for leftovers. It’s been quite yummy to eat with just tzatzkiki as well as a tahini/yogurt sauce we made, but here’s another idea. Make a Greek Pizza on flatout bread and enjoy it that way. If you haven’t seen the recipe for Flatout Pizza , do check that one out too. It makes for kid-friendly food in a hurry.

Greek Pizza

Ingredients

  • ▢ 1 flatbread
  • ▢ 4 ounces gyro meat
  • ▢ 4 ounces feta cheese
  • ▢ 8 Cherry Tomatoes
  • ▢ 8 Green Olives , sliced

You can substitute other toppings of course, but the nutritional info here is for the ingredients listed above

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place flatout bread directly onto the rack. Do not put on a cookie sheet.
  • Cook for 5 minutes. It will be fairly crisp by this point.
  • Remove from oven, spread with toppings.
  • Carefully put it back into the oven, and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese has warmed and the toppings appear wilted. I find this also works well under a broiler.
  • The feta cheese won’t melt like mozzarella would, it just warms and softens.
  • Cut into pieces and serve. I was only able to eat 1/4 of one but I’ve listed as 2 servings.
