What’s The Correct Brown Rice To Water Ratio?
It may surprise you to know that for all rice (other than Black and Arborio) the water to rice ratio is 1:1. That makes it a pretty straight forward process, even when cooking brown rice in the Instant Pot .

One thing to be aware of is that rice plants accumulate arsenic, and there have been concerns over arsenic levels in rice. There is more arsenic in the bran, so basmati brown rice could contain more arsenic.
Choosing a good quality brown rice is critical. For these experiments, I used a long-grain brown basmati and I found it to work really well.

- Cool . Let it cool to room temperature.
- Portion . Separate to the perfect portion for you.
- Pack . Place rice portions into freezer-safe baggies.
- Lay flat . Place the baggies flat so they defrost easier.
- Freeze . Freeze your rice flat to grab quickly later.
Once frozen, the rice should keep in the freezer for about a month. Any longer than that and the rice will begin to lose its flavor and moisture.
How Do I Reheat Brown Rice?
- Put in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Add a tablespoon of water for steaming.
- Reheat it in 30-60 intervals until it’s heated through.
Do You Need To Rinse Brown Rice?
While it’s not as starchy as white rice, you do still need to rinse it, just like you wash your produce. I use a rice rinser that’s made just for this purpose.
Do I Need To Soak Brown Rice?
That’s actually the great thing about Instant Pot Brown Rice . There is no need to soak the rice before pressure cooking it.
The steam and the heat of the pressure cooker will help the rice grains cook up very well without any presoaking, even with congees and other rice that typically gets soaked. Just a quick rinse to get rid of the excess starch and it’s ready to cook.
Can I Make Brown Rice In A Rice Cooker?

We’ve all been there. It’s a weekday morning and you’re waiting in line for a hot cup of coffee to start your day. As you wait for your turn to order you can’t help but stare at the delicious scones taunting you with their high carb content.
But being on a low carb diet you know better, and you leave with only your coffee, wishing you could have left with that scrumptious scone as well.
With my Keto Scones , you don’t have to ever go scone-less again. They’re wonderfully sweet, tangy, and unbelievably low carb.
It can be hard to find a low carb grab-and-go breakfast option. It seems like the only real option is a sugary pastry or doughnut that’s full of carbs when you need a quick breakfast. That’s why I’ve set out to make these delicious Keto Scones every bit as good as the ones you’d get from your local fancy coffee house without all of carbs!

How To Make Keto Scones
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk together almond flour, coconut flour, swerve, baking powder and swerve.
- Make a well in the dry ingredients.
- Add eggs and beat in the well, then pour in heavy whipping cream, melted butter and orange extract.
- Stir until smooth.
- Stir in slivered almonds.
- Place the dough onto the parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Using your hands pat out a round loaf.
- Cut into 8 wedges and push the pieces apart a little so they don’t all bake into one big circle.
- Bake for 25 minutes until golden. At the end of the cook time, turn off the oven and leave the scones in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.
- Make the glaze and drizzle over the top of the keto scones.
Can You Substitute Almond Flour For All Purpose Flour?
Yes. And that’s exactly what I did for this keto scone recipe . There are a couple of things you should know before you choose to use it in any other recipe, though.
- It tastes like almonds. No, not like you’re eating a handful of almonds, but it does have a hint of flavor.
- The amount of almond flour to all purpose flour ratio isn’t always exactly 1:1. Things such as yeast and egg will impact how much you need for your recipe to turn out as expected.
- It’s low carb, not no carb. While it’s absolutely a better choice for a low carb lifestyle, you do still have to eat these tasty almond flour scones that need to be eaten in moderation.
How Do I Get My Scones To Rise And Be Fluffy?
Just as you would in any other traditional baking recipe, you will rely on the baking powder and the egg to help your Keto Scone batter rise.
Do These Almond Flour Scones Actually Taste Like Scones?
I fully acknowledge that these do not LOOK like the scones we typically see.

Keto Scones | Orange Scone Recipe
Ingredients
- ▢ 1 cup ( 112 g ) Superfine Almond Flour
- ▢ 1/4 cup ( 30 g ) coconut flour
- ▢ 1/4 cup ( 45.5 g ) Swerve
- ▢ 1 teaspoon ( 1 teaspoon ) Baking Powder
- ▢ 1/4 teaspoon ( 0.25 teaspoon ) Kosher Salt
- ▢ 1 ( 1 ) Eggs
- ▢ 1/4 cup ( 59.5 g ) Heavy Whipping Cream
- ▢ 1/4 cup ( 56.75 g ) melted butter
- ▢ 1 teaspoon ( 1 teaspoon ) orange extract
- ▢ 1/4 cup ( 27 g ) Slivered Almonds
For the Glaze
- ▢ 1 tablespoon ( 1 tablespoon ) Cream Cheese
- ▢ 1 tablespoon ( 1 tablespoon ) Butter
- ▢ 3 tablespoons ( 3 tablespoons ) Powdered Swerve
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together almond flour, coconut flour, swerve, baking powder and swerve. Make a well in the dry ingredients.

To make the Glaze: Microwave the butter, cream cheese and powdered swerve for 30 seconds –1 minute. Mix well with a fork until the butter and cream cheese are dissolved, and you have a smooth glaze. If your glaze is still lumpy, reheat in 10 second increments, stirring in between with a fork until you get a smooth glaze.
Drizzle over the scones and serve.
