What Is Keto Cake Made Of?
The batter for Keto Chocolate Cake is made up of:
- almond flour
- Swerve
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- baking powder
- eggs
- heavy whipping cream
- coconut oil
Most of these items you probably already have in your pantry if you are new to a low-carb or keto diet . You may have to invest in a couple of ingredients, and then you’ll be baking your favorite Keto desserts in no time!
How Do You Make Keto Chocolate Cake In The Instant Pot?
First, let me tell you WHY you need Instant Pot Cake recipes . The hot steam environment in a pressure cooker makes the lightest, fluffiest cakes you’ve ever had. They tend to be moister–and much though you might hate that word, you know you love the taste of light, tender, moist cakes!
When you’re making a low carb cake with almond flour or coconut flour, you want to use every trick in the book to get a light cake. So here’s how you make it.
- Mix. Mix together all ingredients using a hand mixer , until the mixture is well-incorporated, and looks fluffy. This will keep the cake from being dense as almond flour cakes can sometimes be.
- Pour. Grease a heat-proof pan that fits inside your Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker. Pour the cake batter into this pan. I used a 3-cup Bundt Pan .
- Water. In the inner liner of your Instant Pot , place two cups of water, and a steamer rack . Place the foil-covered pot on the trivet.
- Pressure Cook. Close the Instant Pot , and cook for 20 minutes under high pressure, and allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes. Release remaining pressure.
How Do You Make Keto Chocolate Cake In The Oven?
- Pre-Heat. Grease an 8-inch cake pan . Turn oven to 350F.
- Mix. Mix together all ingredients using a hand mixer , until the mixture is well-incorporated, and looks fluffy. This will keep the cake from being dense as almond flour cakes can sometimes be.
- Bake. Pour into the greased pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a knife inserted in the center of the Keto Chocolate Cake emerges clean.

This Cake Doesn’t Need Frosting?
This keto chocolate cake is very chocolaty, therefore, I don’t use icing. It really tastes quite rich on its own, but I’m sure a little whipped cream could only enhance your dessert. If the icing is non-negotiable, then try my Two-ingredient icing!
Tips and Tricks for this Keto Chocolate Cake:
- Mix. Make sure to beat the batter very well so your cake is not heavy.
- Frosting. The cake is sweet enough on its own, but you can use whipped cream for an additional indulgence. Or top with my Two-Ingredient Icing .
- Pan. Use a metal pan, but if you only have a glass one be sure it’s oven proof. Glass doesn’t conduct heat as well as metal does, so you may have to cook it longer.
- Note that you CAN NOT substitute coconut flour for almond flour! If you want a coconut flour recipe, use the one for this keto chocolate cake with coconut flour

What is a chaffle (keto waffle)? If you’re eating low carb or Keto, you have probably heard all the rage about chaffles! Let me show you what they are and why they’re worth the hype - and all the recipes you need to try!

Ingredients You’ll Need For These Chaffle Recipe Ideas
The basics are some combo of egg and cheese but from here you can riff like mad. You can use a variety of cheeses including cream cheese, parmesan cheese, etc. Some add almond flour and flaxseed, and baking powder, others don’t.
Why Is It Called A Chaffle?
You’ll notice from most of the recipes included in this post, the main ingredient is cheese.
Cheese + Waffles = Chaffles

How To Make A Chaffle?
Below is my basic Keto waffles (chaffles) recipe :
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup cheese
- Layer 1/4 cup of cheese on the bottom of the waffle maker.
- Add half the beaten egg.
- Layer the other 1/4 cup of cheese on top.
- Cook until crisp. Keep in mind the chaffle gets crispier as it cools.
Keto Waffles are all the rage because even though I have a ton of Keto bread recipes like my Keto Bread , Keto Cheese Muffins , Keto Blueberry Muffins , Cauliflower breadsticks , and Keto Pancakes - sometimes people want something low carb and bready that they can make in a flash.
Hence the Chaffle .
- Keto Silver Dollar Pancakes - These are SO good and easy to make!
- Keto Bread - Makes awesome slicing bread, toast, croutons and more!
- Keto Chocolate Waffles . So yummy!
- Cauliflower chaffles can also be used for a keto pizza crust.
- Oreo Chaffles! Make a double batch of the chocolate chaffles and make oreo chaffles as well.
- Zucchini Chaffles are another great savory chaffle option.
What Kind Of Waffle Maker Can You Use To Make This Chaffles Recipe?
You can absolutely use the same recipes that I’ve provided for some tasty chaffles and cook them in a skillet as more of a pancake or flatbread. If you want the actual waffle texture that chaffles are known for, you will need to use a waffle iron.
People are having the most success using this Dash Mini Waffle Iron to make their low carb waffles . It makes the perfect size to cook them quickly and crisps them up just right.
The reason the small one is best, is that you can make chaffle sandwiches using the mini size waffle iron. With a larger or thicker chaffle , it can make for a very thick sandwich.
Can I Make A Chaffle In Myregular waffle iron?
You can use a full-size one like this Cuisinart , but try not to use a Belgian waffle maker as it takes forever to crisp a thick waffle iron. The trick is to cook it long enough for it to properly crisp up your chaffle recipe .

Can You Freeze A Chaffle?
Yes, you can freeze chaffles . Place them in a freezer bag with a piece of parchment paper between each one or just freeze them in small freezer bags, two per bag.
Can You Reheat This Chaffles Recipe?
You can defrost in the microwave or air fryer at 300F for 2-3 minutes at most when you’re ready to eat.
Do Low Carb Waffles Taste Eggy?
The more things you add the less likely they are to taste eggy.
If they taste super eggy to you, use egg whites which makes them less eggy tasting.
How Do You Serve A Keto Waffle?
Most people use them as bread substitutes, so its not unusual to see chaffle sandwiches. Of course, if-you make one of the sweet chaffles below, then you eat them by themselves.
Of course, I would ALWAYS be in favor of whipped cream on any dessert-y thing!
15+ Tips and Tricks for How to Make the BEST Chaffles Ever
- Patience . That’s the best tip. They don’t take very long but if you want a crisp keto waffle , you are just going to have to be a little patient and let it take the 5-7 minutes that it takes to crisp up. Just when you think it’s done? Give it another minute or two. Don’t rush.
- Layering . If you’re making a chaffle recipe with cheese, the way to do this is to layer cheese at the bottom, pour in a tablespoon or so of egg, and then top with cheese again. It’s the crispy cheese on the bottom and top that will make them crispy.
- Shallow waffles. If you want crispy waffles, the shallower the waffle iron, the easier/faster it is to crisp up the chaffle.
- No overfilling. Overfilled chaffle makers…well, they overflow of course. Which makes a huge mess! So if in doubt, underfill rather than overfill. No more than 1/4 cup of TOTAL ingredients at a time.
- Squeeze it . I’ve heard of other people using squeeze bottles so they can get just a little egg into the mini waffle maker.
- Easy cleanup . I like to use a wet paper towel when the waffle iron is warm, to make cleanup easy. Not hot though–obviously! Just warm.
- Brush it. I’ve found a toothbrush works well to clean between the waffle iron teeth. You can also try this sponge cleaner , which I also use to clean the little area on the rim of my Instant Pot .
- No peeking . I can tell you from LOTS of personal experience, that opening the waffle iron every 30 seconds “just to check” doesn’t hep the chaffle cook any faster. Your best bet is to not even open it for 4-5 minutes.
- No steaming. if you’re using the Dash mini , the little blue light goes out when it’s mostly cooked, but most importantly, the chaffle stops steaming quite so much. That’s a good sign that it’s done.
- Get hot. Wait until the waffle iron is hot before you add ingredients, and they’re a lot less likely to stick, and a lot easier to clean up.
- Mat it. Okay so about that overflow. I do find that it happens to me more often than I would like! One thing that has made cleanup easier for me has been to put a silicone trivet underneath.
- Slice or shred . I know most recipes out there suggest shredded cheese, but I have better luck with the thinnest slice of cheese I can buy. I find it crisps a lot faster.
- Not-so-eggy . If you find your chaffles too eggy, use egg white instead of the whole egg.
- Not-so-cheesy . If you want them to taste less cheesy, try mozzarella cheese.
- Crispy Cooling. Allow the chaffles to cool before eating. They get crisper as they cool, so try not to stuff the hot keto waffle into your mouth right away.
- Make lots . Make enough to share, everyone will want them, no matter whether they’re keto or not.

What Are The BestKetoChaffle Recipes To Try?
Besides the base recipe I mentioned earlier, I didn’t come up with the recipes below. I didn’t invent the chaffle , but I’m thankful someone did!

How Long Do They Last?
Chaffles last a surprisingly long time if they’re stored correctly.
My favorite way to store them is in an air-tight glass or BPA free container.
If you layer them between pieces of parchment or wax paper, it keeps them from sticking together. Then, you can reheat them in the toaster or an air fryer for a quick meal solution.
Expect to be able to keep prepared chaffles on hand for 5-7 days for a great meal prep solution.
