Does BBQ Sauce Count As Liquid In The Instant Pot?

Eventhough BBQ sauce is a liquid, it’s not a thin liquid. For your Instant Pot to come up to pressure, you will need a thin liquid in the liner along with it.

For this recipe, I recommend adding either water or chicken broth to the Instant Pot before cooking to prevent a burn notice. This will make the BBQ sauce a bit thinner when it is immediately finished cooking, but don’t worry. I have a way to remedy that if you follow the finishing instructions as written.

Do You Put BBQ Sauce On Chicken Before Cooking?

For this Instant Pot BBQ Chicken recipe, the answer is a “Yes, but–”

Layering your foods while cooking them in the Instant Pot can be very important to ensure you don’t get a burn notice. Any thick liquids, or ingredients that are high in sugar have a tendency to cause this.

BBQ sauce is both thick and high in sugar (depending on the brand you choose). So, for this Instant Pot BBQ Chicken recipe, layering is required.

When it is time to put all of your ingredients into the Instant Pot, make sure the BBQ sauce is the last thing you add and that you DO NOT stir everything before securing the lid and cooking it under high pressure. This will allow all of the tasty flavors of the bbq sauce to cook into your chicken without throwing a burn notice and ruining dinner.

Why Does Chicken Get Rubbery In The Instant Pot?

If you’ve noticed your chicken getting rubbery when you cook it in the Instant Pot, there is probably one of two things that you can adjust to make it turn out more tender.

You should always use a natural pressure release for at least 10 minutes before you release the remaining pressure in your pot. If you don’t allow this extra time, the chicken may come out rubbery.

The second thing that you may be guilty of is cooking chicken for too long. For chicken breast, you only need to cook it for 10 minutes under high pressure. I know this doesn’t seem like a long time for something to come to temp and be tender, but I assure you, it is.

If you’re still weary of this not being enough time, give it a shot just once and use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature before shredding it. As long as it reaches a minimum of 165F, it’s completely safe to eat.

How Long Does It Last?

Instant Pot BBQ Chicken is the meal that keeps on giving. Not only is it guaranteed to be a hit the day you make it, but it makes a tasty wrap, sandwich, or salad topper for days to come.

For the best bite, I suggest storing any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoying them within 3-4 days of preparing them.

  • Easy. This is a simple no cook recipe that only requires combining ingredients and mixing until you create a smooth bite.
  • Low Carb . Only 2 net carbs per serving!
  • Delicious. It’s so delicious you’ll be wanting to try a drizzle of this sauce on everything!

What Does Baja Sauce Taste Like?

You may have heard of Baja sauce or seen it on the menu at one of your favorite restaurants, but you may be wondering what it tastes like before you give it a try.

Many people describe the taste as a combination of creamy and spicy, with a slight tanginess from the sour cream.

What Is Baja Sauce Made Of?

Baja Sauce is a cream-based sauce that is heavily seasoned with a variety of spices to perfectly accentuate many Mexican-inspired meals.

Here’s what you’ll need to grab before you get started:

  • Mayonnaise- This is the body of the sauce and provides a creamy texture that makes this dish so crave-worthy.
  • Sour cream - Adds a touch of tanginess to help balance the richness of the mayo.
  • Chili powder - Gives some heat to each bite without being overwhelming.
  • Cumin - An earthy and warm finishing note.
  • Garlic powder - Provides a slightly nutty and sweet flavor to compliment the chili powder and cumin.
  • Paprika - Adds smokiness and a pop of color to the sauce.
  • Salt - Just a touch to help accentuate the other spices in the dish.

How To Make Baja Sauce

I love making my own sauces at home because most of them are incredibly simple to make, are more affordable than buying a bottle premade at the grocery store, and often use ingredients you already have in your kitchen!

Here’s how you can turn some easy-to-find ingredients into a creamy, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce in a few simple steps:

  1. First, combine the mayonnaise and sour cream in a medium-sized bowl. Stir the two ingredients together until they are fully combined.
  2. Next, add the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, and salt to the bowl. Stir until all of the ingredients are fully incorporated and the sauce has a smooth, creamy consistency.
  3. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings to your liking. If you prefer a spicier sauce, you can add more chili powder or even a pinch of cayenne pepper. If you prefer a milder sauce, you can reduce the amount of chili powder or omit it entirely.
  4. Once you’re happy with the flavor of your Baja sauce, cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and intensify.

Variations

  • Add some smoky heat. Add in a teaspoon of the adobo sauce to add a smoky heat and velvety texture. Adjust the amount you use to reach your preferred heat level.
  • Freshen it up. To give this Baja sauce a fresher bite, add in some finely diced veggies like jalapenos or red onion.
  • Bump up the fat content. If you’re eating a low carb diet, you often need a way to increase your daily fat macros. You can easily turn this sauce into a savory fat bomb by blending half of an avocado into it when you’re combining the rest of the ingredients.

What To Serve It With

There are so many ways to enjoy baja sauce! You can use it as a topping for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, or even grilled chicken or fish.

You can also use it as a dip for chips or vegetables, or as a sauce for slathering on sandwiches or burgers. The possibilities are endless!

How Long Does It Last?

Baja sauce is typically made with mayonnaise and sour cream, which have a relatively short shelf life. It is best to store Baja sauce in the refrigerator and use it within a few days of making it.

If you are not sure whether Baja sauce is still good, you can check for any signs of spoilage, such as a sour smell or off flavor.
