  • Easy - Made in your air fryer .
  • Fast - Ready in under 30 minutes .
  • Delicious - packed with creamy and flavorful seasonings.
  • Authentic. Tastes just like your favorite Mexican street food.
  • Portable - Much cleaner than eating traditional elote .

What is Mexican Corn Eloté?

Eloté is popular Mexican street food. It’s basically just corn on the cob that has been grilled or boiled, and slathered with a delightful sauce, various seasonings, and cheese. It’s quite simple yet incredibly delectable.

Though traditional Mexican Corn Eloté is typically served on the cob and grilled, I decided to simplify the dish by using frozen corn and by cooking it in the air fryer.

Using frozen corn saves time and effort while cooking it in the air fryer saves you from having to fire up the grill. Not to mention the air fryer gives you a similar texture to grilling the corn.

What Is the Difference Between Elotes and Esquites?

Elote

Elote is full ears of corn coated with traditional delicious toppings. This is an amazing Mexican street food that is as fun to eat as it is delicious.

Esquites

Esquites is an easier to eat, but still delicious take on elote. It is also known as Mexican corn in a cup or elote in a cup.

What Is Elote Made Of?

  • Frozen Corn
  • (2 tablespoons) Butter
  • Sour cream
  • mayonnaise
  • shredded parmesan cheese , or feta cheese, cotija cheese or queso fresco
  • Lemon Juice
  • Mexican Chili Powder
  • Cooking Oil Spray

How To Make Mexican Corn In A Cup

  1. Put corn directly in air fryer basket or in a heatproof pan if your air fryer has large holes in the tray.
  2. Place frozen corn in the bottom of the air fryer basket. Spray with oil.
  3. Cook in the air fryer for 10 minutes.
  4. Mix in sour cream, mayonnaise, shredded cheese, lemon juice, and chili powder, and serve.

How Do You Eat Elote?

Just dig in. When it comes to eating this Mexican corn , there really aren’t many rules. If you eat it on the cob, make sure you have a napkin (or three).

If you choose to eat Mexican corn in a cup , mix it up well and make sure you get some of the creamy goodness from the butter and mayo in every bite.

How Do I Make Elote Without An Air Fryer?

No air fryer, no problem. You can get the same flavors by boiling the corn to cook it. It won’t have the same crisp bite as the air fryer version, but it will taste just as delicious.

Haven’t eaten it before? If you’ve never had it, Mexican Corn Eloté can sound quite odd. But I assure you, it is absolutely to die for. Just cook up a batch next taco Tuesday or cook some up as a delicious vegetarian friendly snack and see for yourself!

Why You Should Make Currywurst At Home

Currywurst is one of Germany’s most popular, and famous, street food dishes. Made with pork sausage and topped in a delicious sauce , this easy dish is ready to enjoy in less than 30 minutes , thanks to the air fryer .

It is high in protein , gluten-free , dairy-free, and can easily be made keto .

A while back, I read a list of the top 100 foods to eat before you die. This sounded like a delicious challenge! German Currywurst was on the list and I got curious. I had heard this was a Berlin specialty. When I worked with McDonald’s, I traveled a lot for their business. I found myself in Hamburg and asked about currywurst—and everyone got very excited. They most definitely wanted to get the Indian lady’s version of sausage in a curry ketchup recipe .

So off we went.

What Is Currywurst?

Currywurst is a popular German street food and can easily be found across the country. Sliced pork sausage (Bratwurst) is cut into slices and seasoned with curry ketchup.

(Check out this list of Indian street food recipes if you’re a street foods fan).

Where Did Currywurst Originate?

Currywurst is a popular German street food that originated in Berlin. It was created in 1949 by a German housewife who traded spirits for ketchup with some British soldiers. She then cooked some German sausage (wurst) and sliced it, covered with ketchup and sprinkled it with curry powder .

The dish became popular all across the country. Cheap to make and high in protein. It has now transitioned into a late night street food that can be found on every corner.

What Does Currywurst Taste Like?

Not like curry– that’s the first thing I realized! Or rather, not like any basic Indian meat curry I’d ever had. What it does taste like, is meaty sausage in spiced ketchup, unlike anything you’ve had before—unless you’re in the habit of routinely mixing curry powder into your ketchup.

So the predominant tastes are of sausage, and of ketchup—but a spiced ketchup. This makes currywurst quite kid-friendly.

What Kind Of Sausage Can I Use For Currywurst?

Wurst, or bratwurst, is the German word for sausage. Typically it is made from pork, but you can also find wurst made with veal or beef. It’s seasoned with ginger, nutmeg, coriander or caraway, and recipes vary from region to region.

Bratwurst are widely available in stores in the US, if you can’t find any, you could make this recipe with hot dogs or your favorite pork sausage. But do you bratwurst if you can.

What Ingredients Do You Need?

  • 1 cup canned tomato sauce - This is the base of the currywurst sauce. It gives you that smooth, ketchup-y tomato body that everything else rides on.
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar - Adds tang and brightness to cut through the richness of the sausage and tomato. It also gives the sauce that “street-food sharpness” currywurst is known for.
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder - The signature flavor. This brings the warm curry aroma and mild spice that makes it currywurst. It’s also often sprinkled on top at the end in many versions.
  • 2 teaspoons sweet paprika - Adds sweet peppery depth and a richer red color. Think “round, smoky-adjacent warmth” without actual heat.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Truvia (or 1 teaspoon sugar) - Balances the vinegar and tomato acidity with a touch of sweetness, pushing the sauce into that classic sweet-tangy currywurst vibe.
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper - Adds heat. Not meant to set you on fire, just to give the sauce a little kick behind the curry/paprika.
  • 1/2 cup diced onion - Builds a savory backbone. Cooked into the sauce, it adds sweetness + umami and makes the sauce taste more “real” and less like plain tomato sauce.
  • 1 pound bratwurst - The “wurst” part. Bratwurst is a juicy, mildly seasoned sausage that’s usually pan-seared or grilled, then sliced and topped with the curry-tomato sauce.

Tips and Tricks

Currywurst is one of those magical “simple ingredients, huge payoff” meals. It’s crispy sausage, punchy curry-tomato sauce, and the right balance of sweet/tang/heat.

  • Pre-heat the air fryer before adding the sausage to cook.
  • Slice the bratwurst on the diagonal and into similar sized pieces so they cook evenly.
  • Coat the sausage in the sauce so that everything is covered.

Variations

Currywurst is basically a choose-your-own-adventure: same cozy sausage-and-curry-tomato vibe, but you can nudge it smoky, spicy, sweet, fancy, or super fast with a few smart swaps.

  • Chicken or turkey currywurst - Lighter, but still tasty. Go a touch heavier on spices since the sausage is milder.
  • Spicier “hot stand” - Increase cayenne gradually (start by doubling). Add a pinch of chili flakes or a dab of hot sauce at the end.
  • Fruity/curry-house style - Add a spoonful of applesauce or a little pineapple juice for sweet-fruity depth (sounds odd, tastes legit). It’s great if you like a slightly sweeter curry profile.

What to Eat With Currywurst

Currywurst is bold, saucy, and a little spicy-sweet, so it shines with sides that are crispy, starchy, and/or a bit tangy to cut through the richness.

  • Pommes ( fries ) - The #1 match. Crispy fries soak up sauce like a champ. Bonus points for mayo, curry mayo, or even a little garlic mayo on the side.
  • Brötchen (crusty roll) - Perfect for mopping up sauce and making it handheld street-food style.
  • Potato salad (Kartoffelsalat) - Great if you want something cooler and less fried. Creamy versions = cozy; vinegar-based versions = extra tangy.

How Long Does It Last?

Currywurst usually keeps well for about 3–4 days in the fridge when stored safely in an airtight container, ideally with the sausage and sauce separated. They’ll still be fine together, but the sausage stays snappier when it isn’t soaking. Let everything cool down, then refrigerate within 2 hours of cooking.

Can You Freeze It?

For longer storage, currywurst freezes nicely for about 2–3 months. The sauce freezes especially well, while the sausage can lose a bit of its “snap” but will still taste good.

Reheat until piping hot, warming the sauce gently on the stove and heating the sausage in a pan, oven, or microwave. Add a splash of water to the sauce if it thickens after chilling.
