What Is The Difference Between A Chicken Cutlet And Chicken Milanese?

There is no difference between a chicken cutlet and Chicken Milanese. The thing that makes a chicken cutlet a specific dish is how it is prepared and what it is served with.

Chicken Milanese is a classic Italian dish that involves a crispy breaded chicken cutlet served with a simple salad. Traditionally, it is made by pounding a chicken breast until it is thin, then dredging it in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs before pan-frying (or air frying it, in the case of this recipe) until it is golden and crisp. It’s truly one of our best air fryer chicken recipes .

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Chicken breasts
  • All purpose flour
  • Eggs
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cooking spray

How To Make Chicken Milanese

  1. To prepare the chicken, lay one chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound it until it is an even thickness, about 1/4 inch. Repeat with the remaining chicken breasts.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper. In another dish, whisk together the eggs.
  3. In a third bowl, mix together the panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dip it in the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off. Finally, coat the chicken breast in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing the breadcrumbs onto the chicken to adhere.
  5. Place the breaded chicken breasts in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch each other. Lightly spray the chicken with olive oil cooking spray.
  6. Air fry the chicken for 8-10 minutes per side, or until it is golden brown and crispy.

Variations

While the traditional recipe is delicious on its own, there are several variations you can try to mix things up and add your own twist to this classic dish. Here are some ideas to try out:

  • Lemon and Herb - Add some extra flavor to your chicken by mixing chopped fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, and rosemary with lemon zest, and adding them to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Parmesan and Almond - For a nutty twist on the classic recipe, replace the traditional breadcrumbs with a mixture of ground almonds and grated parmesan cheese.
  • Pesto Chicken Milanese - Spread a thin layer of your favorite pesto sauce over the chicken breast before coating it in breadcrumbs. This adds an extra layer of flavor and a beautiful green hue to the dish.
  • Spicy Chicken Milanese - Add a kick of heat to your chicken by mixing some cayenne pepper, paprika, or red pepper flakes into the breadcrumb mixture. You can also serve the chicken with spicy mayo or hot sauce on the side.

There are endless variations to try when it comes to Chicken Milanese. Get creative and experiment with your favorite flavors and ingredients to create your own unique twist on this classic Italian dish.

What To Serve With It

What Does Pomodoro Sauce Taste Like?

Pomodoro sauce is a type of tomato-based sauce that originated in Italy. It’s made with a few simple ingredients, including tomatoes, garlic, and basil, but the result is a sauce that is bursting with flavor.

What Is The Difference Between Pomodoro Sauce And Marinara Sauce?

Pomodoro sauce and marinara sauce are both Italian tomato-based sauces that are commonly used in Italian cuisine. However, there are a few key differences between the two sauces.

Pomodoro sauce is typically made with ripe tomatoes, olive oil, fresh basil, and garlic. It is a simple sauce that is meant to highlight the flavor of the tomatoes. Pomodoro sauce is often used in dishes like pasta and bruschetta.

Marinara sauce, on the other hand, is made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, and herbs. It is a more complex sauce that has a deeper flavor than pomodoro sauce. Marinara sauce is often used in dishes like pizza and pasta. It can also be used as a dipping sauce for bread or as a base for other sauces.

In general, pomodoro sauce is a simpler and more tomato-forward sauce, while marinara sauce is more complex and has a deeper flavor.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Pomodoro sauce is an extremely simple recipe, but it is bursting with flavor. Here’s what you’ll need to have in your kitchen before you get started:

  • Whole peeled tomatoes - I prefer to use canned tomatoes for ease, but if you want to use fresh tomatoes, you can use them as well.
  • Olive oil - To help sweat the garlic and onion to make them flavorful and tender.
  • Garlic - Fresh garlic adds the biggest punch of flavor.
  • Onion - Gives flavor and a bit of texture to the sauce.
  • Basil - Provides freshness to help balance the rich, salty flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How To Make Pomodoro Sauce

If you have a large pan and a stovetop, you can easily make this tasty tomato sauce recipe at home. Follow the steps below to make a perfect Pomodoro sauce every time!

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. While the pan is warming up, separate the canned whole tomatoes from the liquid. You will reserve the liquid to use again later.
  3. Add the diced garlic to the hot oil and saute until fragrant and slightly browned.
  4. Place the tomatoes into the pan with the oil and garlic and stir on low heat until the tomatoes begin to break down.
  5. Once the tomatoes are tender and soft, add in the liquid reserved from the canned tomatoes.
  6. Add in basil, salt, and pepper, and let the sauce simmer until slightly reduced and flavorful.
  7. If you prefer your sauce to have a smooth texture, you can allow it to cool slightly and then use an immersion blender. If you prefer a chunkier texture, serve the sauce as is and enjoy!

What To Serve It With

Whenever I want a quick and easy meal, I use my trusty Pomodoro sauce recipe. It’s perfect for tossing with pasta, spreading on pizza, or using it as a base for all sorts of dishes. And the best part? It’s so simple that even a beginner cook can whip up a batch in no time.

  • Serve with pasta. Toss a delicious al dente pasta to coat it to perfection for a family-friendly meal.
  • Make a pizza. Skip the overly sweet canned or jarred pizza sauce and top a flatbread with some sauce and your favorite topping for a pizza that will rival your favorite delivery.
  • Top Chicken Parmesan. Use leftover homemade Pomodoro Sauce to cover a keto chicken tender and sprinkle on some cheese for a tasty low carb dinner.

How Long Does It Last?

Pomodoro sauce can last for up to a week in the refrigerator if it is stored properly. To store Pomodoro sauce, place it in an airtight container or sealable plastic bag and refrigerate it.

Alternatively, you can freeze this sauce for longer storage. Frozen Pomodoro sauce can last for several months in the freezer.

To use frozen Pomodoro sauce, thaw it in the refrigerator or microwave until it is heated through. If the sauce is too thick after it has been frozen and thawed, you can thin it out by stirring in a little bit of water or broth.
